A sub-optimal night of musical theater and discussion dedicated to football in America.

From the original description: "Soccer has been America's sport of the future since 1972, and the game will take a giant step backwards as Roger Bennett and Michael Davies, co-hosts of the Men In Blazers podcast, take the stage with "a Thousand Stars" to ramble, argue about Downton Abbey, play FIFA 14, and engage in the hard hitting football stories that really matter: Who would win in a battle of big bottomed smalls versus small shouldered talls? Do reds always come out on top over blues? And just who can stop the USA from winning the 2014 World Cup? All that, and the presentation of the World's First Men In Blazers "Golden Blazer of Fame" to an as yet unsuspecting American hero."
  • Held on September 17, 2013 at 6:30 p.m. ET at Joe's Pub in New York City.
  • Produced by Tony Award-winning Broadway producer John Johnson (@jfj4).
  • Bob Ley was awarded the Golden Blazer of Fame (video courtesy of @johnbonini).
  • Several Broadway talents joined them onstage to sing GFOP @robinhargadon's parody of "Springtime for Hitler" called "Springtime for Di Canio." (NOTE: Di Canio was sacked five days later)
  • Other songs that received honorable mention: "How Do You Score A Goal Against Tim Howard?" by Greg Pool (to the tune of "How Do Solve a Problem Like Maria?"); "I'm The Very Model of a Modern Man United Fan," by Stanley Rosenbury; and "Not In The Face," by Brett Smith (to the tune of "Send In The Clowns").
  • The event was recorded and is available as a podcast. It was the first (of many?) live Men In Blazers podcast.
  • Twitter hashtag was #MIB1000Stars
  • As noted at the podcast, Philip Larkin was invited to attend but was unable to make it.
  • A Storify page captured many of the images, tweets and videos published by GFOPs who attended.
